Stormwater Pits & Surface Water Management

Stormwater isn’t just an urban problem. Across acreage properties, outer-suburban blocks, and semi-rural homes, poorly managed runoff can erode driveways, flood gardens, and undermine footings. Creek to Coast Plumbing installs compliant stormwater pits that direct surface water safely, protecting your land, slab, and home.

What is a Stormwater Pit?

A stormwater pit is an underground catchment chamber that collects runoff from your roof, driveway, pathways or landscaping, before it enters stormwater pipes or drains.
It’s a key component in controlling surface flow and preventing pooling or washout damage.
Creek to Coast Plumbing installs:

  • Precast concrete and polymer pits
  • Custom-sized pits for acreage runoff
  • Grated pits for driveways, patios, and hardstands
  • Spoon drains and channel connections
  • Sediment traps to reduce silt entering stormwater pipes

We ensure every pit is:

  • Sized correctly for your roof and surface catchment area
  • Connected to compliant stormwater infrastructure
  • Fitted with access lids or grates that meet AS/NZS 3500 standards

Drainage for Homes in Moreton Bay & Rural QLD

Suburban blocks around Caboolture, Bribie Island, and Morayfield often experience intense rainfall events, while rural properties on the outskirts rely heavily on ground drainage and driveway runoff control.

We design stormwater pits to suit:

  • Sloping driveways that need water directed into kerbside stormwater
  • Acreage lots with long sealed or gravel driveways prone to erosion
  • Properties without council stormwater ,where lawful dispersal or detention is needed

If you’re outside of the urban stormwater network, we follow Queensland Urban Drainage Manual (QUDM) guidelines to create effective onsite dispersal solutions.

Assessing the Site

Before any stormwater drainage, we must take the time to assess your property. Checking the slope of the ground and locate areas where water tends to pool. Additionally, evaluating the soil type to confirm it can adequately support the pit. If you have sandy soil a soakwell may be a better option.
It’s also important to check local building regulations, as you may need permits for drainage work.

What If I Have A Septic Tank, HSTPs & Trenches?

It’s important to note:
Stormwater and wastewater ( Blackwater)must be kept separate.
If you have a Home Sewage Treatment Plant (HSTP) on your property, stormwater pits must be designed to avoid overflow or surcharge near disposal trenches or absorption areas.
We map out existing HSTP zones and install pits away from critical zones in line with QLD plumbing codes.
