Storm Water Drain, Installation And Drainage Repairs
Water pooling in the yard after rain, gutters spilling over, or a downpipe backing up usually means the stormwater drain is blocked or broken.
Creek to Coast Plumbing clears, repairs and installs stormwater drains in Caboolture and across Moreton Bay. We find the cause with a drain camera and give you an upfront quote before any work starts. Before we leave, we clean up.
Here’s what to look for, and what can be done about it.
Signs Your Stormwater Drain Is Blocked
Stormwater problems nearly always show up after rain. Watch for these after the next storm:
- Water pooling in the yard: if puddles sit for days after a storm, the water has nowhere to drain.
- Gutters overflowing or downpipes backing up: if the gutters are clean and still spill over, the blockage is usually further down, in the downpipe or the pipe underground.
- Water around the slab or under the house: water that should be piped away is finding its own path instead.
- A patch of lawn that never dries out: a cracked or broken pipe can leak into the soil.
- Big trees near the drain line: roots get into stormwater pipes through joints and cracks, then keep growing.
Caboolture sits on reactive clay, which swells when it’s wet and shrinks when it dries. That movement can crack stormwater pipes and open up the joints, and fine clay washes in and settles inside the pipe. We’ve written more about why stormwater drains keep blocking in Caboolture’s clay soil
Creek To Coast Plumbing can help you prevent storm water problems. Choosing the right drainage plumber can make a significant difference and you deserve peace of mind knowing that your drainage plumbing needs are in expert hands, ensuring a long-lasting and effective solution.
Finding Stormwater Problems With a Drain Camera
We put a CCTV drain camera down the pipe to find where the blockage or damage is and what’s causing it: tree roots, silt, a cracked pipe or a joint that has come apart. Then you get an upfront quote for the repair before any work starts.
Clearing a Blocked Stormwater Drain
Most blocked stormwater drains clear with a hydro jetter. It uses high-pressure water to cut through leaves, silt and tree roots inside the pipe and flush them out. If roots keep coming back, the camera shows whether the pipe itself is damaged, because a clear pipe with a crack in it will block again.
Stormwater Pipe Repairs and Relining
A cracked or broken stormwater pipe can be fixed two ways.
Pipe relining seals the damaged pipe from the inside with a resin liner. There’s no digging, so your driveway, paths and garden stay as they are.
For some pipes, digging up and replacing the damaged section is the better fix, for example when the pipe has collapsed or has a sag where water sits. We’ll explain which option suits your pipe and why.

New Stormwater Drainage for Caboolture Homes
New homes, extensions, new driveways and yards that flood every time it rains all need somewhere for the water to go. We install stormwater pipes and stormwater pits, French drains, spoon drains and soakwells, and connect downpipes so the water ends up where it’s allowed to go.
Who Is Responsible for Stormwater Drains in Queensland?
The stormwater pipes on your property are yours to look after. Council looks after its own drains, including any council drain that runs under private land in a drainage easement.
Queensland’s plumbing law defines a property’s stormwater installation as its roof gutters, downpipes, subsoil drains and stormwater drainage, not including council’s stormwater drainage. The same section says the owner must not let any of it connect to a sewer drain or an on-site sewage system such as a septic tank Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018, section 80.
Moreton Bay Regional Council maintains council-owned stormwater drains. It isn’t responsible for private stormwater pipes. If a blocked drain or a faulty manhole cover is on public land, such as in the street, report it to council.
Your stormwater has to go to an approved discharge point. In Moreton Bay that can be:
- the kerb and channel in the street
- an inter-allotment drainage line
- a council drainage easement or drainage reserve
- a council table drain
- an on-site system, such as a rubble pit or absorption trench.
Council approval is needed before connecting to council stormwater drainage. Stormwater must not go into the sewer.
If your block sits lower than the land around it, council says you have to accept the natural flow of water from above, and nobody can change the path of that overland flow in a way that harms the neighbours. What you can sort out is the water from your own roof and yard, by piping it to an approved discharge point.
