Grab Rails For Toilets and Bathrooms
Creek to Coast Plumbing supplies and installs grab rails in bathrooms, showers and toilets in homes across Caboolture, Morayfield and the Moreton Bay region. Occupational therapists send clients to us for grab rails, so we install the rails to the OT’s recommendations and specifications.
We can supply the rails, or install rails that you or your OT have already bought.
We are licensed bathroom builders as well as plumbers, so fixing a rail securely into a bathroom wall, and doing it to code, is part of the work we are licensed to do.
Grab Rails Installed to Your Occupational Therapist’s Recommendations
An OT’s home assessment usually lists each grab rail the person needs. The report often gives the type of rail, its length and shape, which wall it goes on, and how high it should sit. We follow the positions and heights on the report rather than a set height, because the right height depends on the person who will use the rail and how they move.
Send us the recommendations when you book, or read them out over the phone.
If you have not had an OT assessment, tell us where you need support in the bathroom and we can talk through the options with you.
Where Grab Rails Go in a Bathroom, Shower and Toilet
The places people most need something to hold are the places where they change position. In a bathroom, that means:
- Beside the toilet: a rail to hold while sitting down and standing back up.
- In the shower: a rail to steady yourself while washing, and one at the entry if you step over a hob or a lip to get in.
- Beside the bath: a rail to hold while stepping in and out, or while lowering yourself down.
Your OT may recommend rails in other places around the home too. Let us know what is on the report and we will quote for all of it.
Fixing Grab Rails Securely Into Bathroom Walls
A grab rail has to hold a person’s weight when they pull on it or lean on it hard. A rail fixed only into plasterboard or tile can pull away from the wall, so each rail needs to be fixed into solid support behind the wall.
Newer homes make this easier. Queensland’s Livable Housing Design Standards have applied to new homes since 1 October 2023, and they require bathroom and toilet walls to be reinforced so that handrails can be installed later (Queensland Government: Livable Housing Design Standard).
Many homes in Caboolture, Morayfield and Burpengary were built well before then, and their walls may not have that reinforcement. In an older bathroom, we work out where the solid fixing points are before we drill, and the rail goes where it will hold.
Our QBCC licence, number 1199436, covers plumbing and drainage and the builder class restricted to kitchen, bathroom and laundry installation (QBCC licensee register). Holding both means the same team can fix the rails into the wall properly and to code, and do any plumbing work in the bathroom as well.

Supply and Install Grab Rails, or Install the Rails You Already Have
We can supply the grab rails listed on your OT’s report and install them. If you or your OT have already bought the rails, we can install those instead. If the report names a particular rail, finish or length, include it when you book.
Grab Rails With Comfort Height Toilets and Bidet Seats
Grab rails often go in alongside other changes to the bathroom. If your OT has recommended a taller toilet, see our comfort height toilets page. If they have recommended a bidet seat, our Caroma Livewell bidet seat page and our bidet seats page cover the options. Tell us everything on the report when you book, and we will quote for the rails, toilet and seat together.
Our accessible plumbing page explains the full range of accessible bathroom work we do, including renovations when the existing bathroom cannot be made safe with rails alone.
