If you’re looking for the best heat pumps in Queensland, our first choice is Rheem. We install and service all the major heat pump brands, and every brand on this list is one we fit around Caboolture, Morayfield and Moreton Bay. Rheem sits at number 1 because it’s the one we recommend most often.
The rest of the list is in alphabetical order, not ranked. Everything we say about each brand’s range, tank sizes and warranty comes from the maker’s own Australian website, checked in September 2026. Here’s what each one offers.

1. Rheem Heat Pumps: Our First Choice in Queensland
Rheem is our first choice for three reasons. It’s an easier system to manage, the range goes up to bigger tanks, and there are more options within it. Every point below is taken from Rheem’s own pages.
An Easier Rheem Heat Pump to Manage
Rheem lists a touch screen LED display on the AmbiPower 280e, the MDc-180, the Ambiheat HDc270 and both split models. The Ambiheat HDc270 gives you variable temperature control and a choice of standard, vacation and emergency boost modes.
The AmbiPower 280e WiFi goes further with Rheem’s EcoNet app. From your phone you can:
- Check hot water: see how much is available at a glance.
- Set schedules: choose fixed heating times, or switch to holiday or solar mode.
- Watch energy use: monitor what the system uses and get alerts if something needs attention.
Larger Rheem Heat Pump Tanks for Bigger Households
Rheem’s residential heat pumps come in five tank sizes. Here they are from largest to smallest, with the household size Rheem rates each one for on its heat pump range page:
- AmbiPower 5kW Split, stainless steel: 325 litres, for 6 people.
- AmbiPower 5kW Split, enamel-lined: 315 litres, for 6 people.
- AmbiPower 280e: 280 litres, for up to 6 people.
- Ambiheat HDc270: 270 litres, for 2 to 6 people.
- AmbiPower MDc-180: 180 litres, for 1 to 4 people.
So a busy family home can go large, and a couple or a granny flat can go small, without leaving the Rheem range.
More Rheem Heat Pump Options to Suit Your Home
Rheem gives you more choices inside the one range. The AmbiPower 5kW Split separates the heat pump module from the tank. Rheem says the module can go on the ground or on a wall up to 2 metres high, and the tank can sit up to 5 metres away or indoors, such as in a garage (Rheem AmbiPower 5kW Split).
The other options Rheem lists include:
- Tank lining: stainless steel or vitreous enamel on the split models.
- Back-up element: hardwired, or plug and lead on the AmbiPower 280e and the MDc-180.
- Water conditions: a hard water anode version of the 280e WiFi, and several models listed as suitable for harsh water.
- Australian made: Rheem lists the Ambiheat HDc270 as manufactured in Australia.
Rheem Heat Pump Efficiency and Running Costs
Rheem publishes a coefficient of performance (COP) of 5.2 for the AmbiPower 280e and 4.5 at 19°C for the MDc-180 and the split models. COP is the heat delivered for each unit of electricity used, so higher means cheaper to run. Rheem’s modelled savings range from up to 70% on the MDc-180 to up to 78% on the enamel-lined split model, compared with an electric water heater in its climate Zone 3. Rheem notes that savings vary with location, the system being replaced, hot water use and tariff.
The Rheem Heat Pump Warranty
Rheem gives a 7 year or 10 year cylinder warranty, depending on the model. The MDc-180 carries 7 years on the cylinder. The AmbiPower 280e, Ambiheat HDc270 and both AmbiPower 5kW Split models carry 10 years. On all of them, Rheem lists:
- Cylinder labour: 3 years.
- Sealed system supply and labour: 3 years.
- All other parts, supply and labour: 1 year.
These periods apply to a single-family home. Rheem also says its warranty may not apply if the water supply is outside its limits, such as a chloride content above 250 mg/L or a pH below 6.0 or above 9.5. If you’re on tank or bore water, have it checked first. Our post on hard water and hot water systems in Caboolture explains why.
Rheem Delivery and Customer Service
Rheem delivers directly to us and is the easiest supplier we deal with, which makes installation simpler for you. In our experience, Rheem’s customer service is also the best we deal with.
Rheem’s warranties page sets out how that support works. The Rheem Service line, 131 031, takes calls from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. Rheem has a national service network that repairs or replaces parts at your home under the warranty terms, and Rheem Service also does preventative maintenance outside the warranty.
2. Dux Ecosmart Heat Pump
Dux makes the Ecosmart heat pump in 200 litre and 285 litre sizes, and Dux says both are designed and manufactured in Australia (Dux Ecosmart 285L). It uses R290, a low global warming potential gas, and connects to the Smart Life app. Through the app you can check the heat pump’s status, change operating modes and schedule it to run on power from your solar panels.
Dux lists a 7 year tank warranty, 3 years on the heat pump components including labour, and 1 year on other parts and labour.
3. Quantum Heat Pump Hot Water Systems
Quantum makes residential heat pumps in 150, 200, 270 and 340 litre sizes (Quantum Energy). Quantum says they run down to minus 10°C without an electric element, and are designed to handle harsh and high-mineral water.
On the Quantum 270L, Quantum lists an operating sound level of 48 dB and a warranty of 5 years on the tank and 2 years on the electrical and heat pump parts.
4. Rinnai Enviroflo Heat Pump
Rinnai’s heat pump range runs from a 180 litre Enviroflo up to a 400 litre split model rated for up to 8 people (Rinnai heat pumps). The range includes both integrated and split models. Rinnai says its heat pumps are designed to work in all regions of Australia, with multiple operating modes and Wi-Fi control options. Rinnai puts their sound level at around 45 to 46 decibels.
Rinnai lists a 7 year cylinder warranty on the Enviroflo 265L, with full terms in its warranty booklet.
5. Solahart Atmos Heat Pump
Solahart’s Atmos heat pump range includes the compact Atmos Eco 180HDC, the Atmos EcoSplit 5kW for narrow spaces, two Atmos Frost 270 models and the Wi-Fi connected SOLANXT Atmos Eco 280HER (Solahart heat pumps). Solahart says the Atmos Frost 270HAV is made in Australia. Solahart heat pumps are sold through its local authorised dealers.
6. Thermann Heat Pump Hot Water Systems
Thermann offers two styles (Thermann heat pumps). The Integrated Heat Pump comes in 200 and 285 litre sizes and is designed and built in Australia. It has an app with a schedule mode, so you can run it when electricity is cheaper or when your solar panels are producing.
The Split Heat Pump comes in 160, 250, 315 and 400 litre sizes. It uses CO2 as its natural gas, runs at 37 dB according to Thermann, and keeps producing hot water down to minus 10°C.
How to Choose the Best Heat Pump for Your Queensland Home
If you’re replacing an old system, two of our guides are worth reading first: how much it costs to replace a hot water system in Queensland and what to do if your water heater is leaking from the bottom. After that, the best heat pump for your home comes down to four things:
- Household size: match the tank to the number of people and your busiest time of day. If you’re running out of hot water too fast now, that guide covers the common reasons.
- Space: an integrated unit needs one spot, while a split model lets the tank and module sit apart.
- Water: tank and bore water can affect which model and warranty suit you.
- Controls: decide whether app control and solar scheduling matter to you.
Thermann notes that heat pumps tend to be more efficient in warmer climates, because they draw their heat from the surrounding air (Thermann). How Long Is the Warranty on a Rheem Heat Pump?
Rheem gives 7 years on the cylinder for the AmbiPower MDc-180 and 10 years for its other current models. Cylinder labour and the sealed system are covered for 3 years, and other parts for 1 year. The terms apply to single-family homes and depend on water quality.
